This walk of 5 miles, led by Mark Jones, is the latest in a series of walks along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, which finds us exploring the section between Feniscowles (Finnington Lane) to the west of Blackburn and the well preserved Eanam Wharf close to Blackburn town centre. It continues our walk of June 2024 exploring the L&L canal between Johnson’s Hillock and Finnington Lane; on this occasion following the canal eastward from Bridge 91B (Fennington Lane) to Blackburn.

Our day will also include viewing the site of the former Star Paper Mill, with its short Tramway incline up to the canal, together with glimpses of the parallel former Blackburn – Chorley Railway, closed to passengers in 1960.

Meet at Blackburn Station on arrival of trains from Manchester Victoria 09.43 (Clitheroe train, dep Salford Crescent 09.51, Bolton 10.04, arrives Blackburn 10.33), Preston (dep 09.44) and Leeds (dep 08.58). We will then catch Bus 2A (service to Chorley) at 10.41 from Bus Stand 1 outside the station for the 20 minute journey to Finnington Lane bus stop. Another bus (#2A) is available 30 minutes later if any delays occur.

Refreshments and return train services available in/from Blackburn.

Difficulty Level Easy, along established paths throughout, unless significant rain falls beforehand. Packed lunch. Map 103 or Explorer 287.
