The winners of the 2024 RCHS Transport History Book of the Year Awards were announced and the authors presented with their awards at 1:45pm on Saturday 21st September at the Friends Meeting House, 6 Mount Street, Manchester.

The seven books shortlisted for the 21st annual Awards were:

  • The Tralee & Dingle Railway by Michael Whitehouse, Lightmoor Press
  • The Tyne Coal Keel: a unique British watercraft, 1400-1890 by Adrian Osler, self-published
  • The Deeside Line: Scotland’s royal railway by Keith Fenwick, GNSRA
  • TA & CH Walker; shipbuilders, railway and civil engineering contractors by Richard Clammer, Lightmoor Press
  • The Making of MacBrayne: a Scottish transport monopoly spanning three centuries by Andrew Clark, Stenlake Publishing
  • The Coming of the Railway: a new global history, 1750-1850 by David Gwyn, Yale University Press
  • 150 Years of Manx Railways by Barry Edwards & Rich Kirkman, Lily Publications

The winner of this year’s Transport History of the Year prize (following his award for Early Railways Book of the Year) was David Gwyn, seen below receiving the David St John Thomas silver cup from outgoing Society President, Gerald Leach:

Andrew Clark, winner of the Maritime Transport Book of the Year was unfortunately unable to be present to receive the award.
