Tim Leffler’s Online Library Archive Links Directory

Over the course of many years, RCHS member Tim Leffler has saved a substantial number of potentially useful archive links in a single document for personal use. This is now available, as a  pdf file, from the RCHS website.

Tim writes: “Please note that this is a personal collection and is therefore probably very idiosyncratic for most readers, but I hope it might still be useful to some members. My interest is in the GNR, and therefore, other pre-grouping/grouping railway-specific material is likely to be missing.  Many of the scans are from Google Books and/or the Haithi Trust collections, which are freely available online scans. All are public domain, and all pre-1900 are well out of copyright (as are most of those pre-1925). There are some links to modern theses by railway scholars, which will have copyright, but I am sure all members on this site will know this. The scans vary enormously in quality, but many were done in the early 2000s when scanning tech was not as good. Victorian era print, particularly periodicals, used very small print fonts, and print tech was not as good, therefore, copies were not always great. Most are easily legible, but some require informed interpretation. you should be able to connect to almost all of the links. There are now so many that checking each one is still active is a laborious process, so I have not done it, and apologies for any you find.

As the accretion of links has grown, I have not been as organised as I should have been. I have started the process of reorganisation, but this is not the enjoyable part, and it is fragmented and an ongoing work. My own version is substantially longer and has many notes included, but I hope that what is here will assist other members’ research. My personal document is constantly being added to and updated and so if there is interest, I would be happy to create an updated version at a later date.”.
