We are pleased to add links to the Yorkshire Waterways Heritage Society’s Historic Photographs of Yorkshire’s Waterways

The YWHS photographic collection covers 150 years of life on Yorkshire’s waterways, illuminating the lives of hard working watermen who plied their trade on the waterways of the county in the 19th and 20th centuries. There are 8 galleries to browse:

People and Events
Keels and Sloops
Canal Infrastructure and Buildings
Motor Barges
Goole Docks
Boat and Ship Building
Communities along the Waterways
“Tom puddings”

The YWHS inherited the photographic archive from the Goole Waterways Museum when that closed. The YWHS trustees have spent some years scanning and indexing this invaluable collection showing the many different aspects of life on the waterways.
