Standedge Tunnel is the longest, highest and deepest canal tunnel in the UK. Its opening in 1811 completed the Huddersfield Narrow Canal for through traffic from Huddersfield to Ashton under Lyne.
After the canal restoration project, the tunnel reopened in May 2001.

This meeting will be held in the Brierley Room of the York Explore Library, Museum Street, York, YO1 7DS. This venue is about ten minutes walk from York Railway Station, across Lendal Bridge towards the Minster. It is on the left just before the traffic lights.
There is a café inside the library selling drinks and snacks.
Members of other groups and visitors are welcome to attend. A voluntary contribution of at least £3.00 is requested to help defray meeting room expenses.
