SUMMARY:Walk: The Bury Branch of the Manchester\, Bolton & Bury Canal
DESCRIPTION:A walk of 6 miles following the Bury Branch of the Manchester\,
  Bolton &amp\; Bury Canal (MB&amp\;BC) led by Andrew Waldron. Meet at Bury
  Metro Interchange at 10:30am.\n\nThe following is a preliminary descripti
 on for the day. Further detail of the walk will follow. \n\nThe walk star
 ts at Bury Metro Interchange from where we follow a short stretch of road 
 walking to reach the route of the canal. Along the way we will follow a se
 ction of the old Bolton-Bury railway line with a splendid viaduct and a su
 rviving bridge and then to Elton Head Reservoir. From Elton Head it's a sh
 ort walk to where the canal is still in water. Once the breach at Little L
 ever is repaired (current date August 2026) most of the the canal will be 
 in water to Nob End and the meeting poit of the Bury and Bolton Branches. 
 We will walk a short distance along the Bolton Branch and to Moses Gate fo
 r bus or train return to Manchester.\n\nFeatures along the canal include 7
  original bridges\, one of which is an Adamson Foundry iron girder bridge\
 , there are two weirs or drain offs plus one aqueduct\; also the Mount Sio
 n Crane and several other areas of interest\, including 11 out of the 17 s
 urviving quarter-mile posts. Part of the tow path is still in cobble stone
  as built.\n\nThere is a minor diversion about a mile along the canal from
  the Bury end\, where we can get off the tow path to see the unique double
  deck rail/foot bridge\, on the Metrolink between Bury and Radcliffe.\n\nT
 here is a series of two 3-lock staircases at Nob End plus the main aqueduc
 t and the large pack horse bridge over the River Croal.\n\nPlease bring a
