SUMMARY:Walk: Dewsbury’s Railways
DESCRIPTION:Dewsbury’s Railways\, by invitation of the Railway Ramblers' 
 Club. Meet outside Dewsbury station at 10.30 - check train times as they c
 an change with the Trans-Pennine Upgrade. Maps Landranger 104 &amp\; 110\,
  Explorer 288.\n\nA 6 mile walk\, mainly on hard\, flat surfaces viewing t
 he sites of all four railway companies to arrive in Dewsbury: LNW\, Midlan
 d\, L&amp\;Y\, and GN. We take in the route of the Midland Railway’s ill
 -fated West Riding Line to Savile Town\, and their massive goods shed\, al
 so several stretches of the L&amp\;Y’s Dewsbury Market Street Station br
 anch\, plus Great Northern routes. We cross Headfield Viaduct which gave t
 he GN access to the L&amp\;Y’s main line plus\, with additional running 
 powers\, the Spen Valley towns and Low Moor\, finally gaining the trackbed
  of the GN’s Ossett-Dewsbury line for a short deviation to walk out and 
 back through the 179yd (lit) Earlsheaton tunnel\, then follow the GN track
 bed almost to the town centre where the old Central Station frontage survi
 ves as a supporting structure for the modern Ring Road. Returning to Dewsb
 ury Station\, we see the impressive 8-arch stone viaduct which carries the
  ex-LNWR line to Leeds\, and nearby warehouse buildings erected on surplus
  land sold off by the LNWR. We also walk a short stretch of the Calder &am
 p\; Hebble Navigation’s Dewsbury branch to Savile Town Wharf where we ea
 t at The Leggers Inn or eat a packed lunch. Many interesting architectural
  structures to see\, and lots of history. Booking is not required.\n\nNote
  that this is not an RCHS event and\, as such\, RCHS members attending are
  not covered by the Society's insurance policy\, including its public liab
