Skipton Railway Station
Please note changes to bus and car times, also the road closure mentioned below
This walk will follow the tramway from the exchange sidings at the end of the Grassington Branch to Threshfield limestone quarries in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. We will also trace the short-lived branch to the associated coal mine. The return route will include a short section of the Grassington Branch trackbed. Part of the walk includes some hilly ground.
Participants travelling via Skipton should meet Peter Martin (email: email@example.com) at the entrance to Skipton Railway Station at 10.45 to catch a route 72 bus to the site of Grassington & Threshfield Station where the circular walk will commence. Car drivers should park by 11.45 near the site of Grassington & Threshfield Station (SD994638) and meet walk leader Douglas Robinson there (email firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 07741499967). Six miles, bring a packed lunch.
N.B. Bus route 72 Skipton – Threshfield/Grassington is now operated by Transdev (Keighley Bus Company) and the timetable has changed. Participants meeting at Skipton Railway Station should still assemble at 10.45 to walk part of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal to the bus station to join the route 72 bus at 11.35 (the bus picks up at the railway station at 11.40). Car drivers should now meet as above at 11.45 for a prompt start at 12.00.
The return bus from Threshfield is due to arrive at Skipton Railway Station at 17.55.
The A59 at Kex Gill, Blubberhouses, is scheduled to be closed until 20 June and alternative routes including the A65 through Ilkley are likely to be busier than usual. Car drivers are advised to allow extra time if they may be affected by the emergency road closure.
