SUMMARY:London Group - The Basingstoke Canal (Neil Barton)
DESCRIPTION:The Basingstoke Canal is unusual in many ways. Opened in 1794\,
  it was never commercially successful. However it never came under nationa
 l government control\, and remains today as a navigable waterway after an 
 enormous volunteer effort in the 1980s. This talk will cover the history\,
  restoration\, and current challenges of the canal.\n\nNeil Barton is a vo
 lunteer with the Basingstoke Canal Society who has written about the canal
 ’s history and wildlife. He recently published a YouTube documentary abo
