There has been a light rail boom in cities all over the world in the last 25 years, but in Britain the tram renaissance has been very slow. Will the West Midlands have a new network across the urban areas in time for HS2’s arrival in 2026 or is Birmingham doomed to remain a motor city dominated by the car? Oliver Green, author of ‘Rails in the Road, a history of Tramways in Britain and Ireland’, winner of the RCHS book of the year award in 2017, will take a look at current and future prospects for trams in the UK.
