DESCRIPTION:The 72nd Annual General Meeting of the Railway &amp\; Canal His
 torical Society will be held at\n\n[caption id="attachment_41029" align="a
 lignleft" width="300"] Friends Meeting House\, Manchester[/caption]\n\nThe
  Friends’ Meeting House\, 6 Mount Street\, Manchester M2 5NS at 12:00pm 
 on Saturday 12th September 2026. The morning will commence at 11.30am with
  signing-in formalities and refreshments. In order that all members have t
 he opportunity to attend\, the meeting will also be accessible using the f
 acilities of Zoom. Details of the arrangements for the AGM are available i
 n the Members area of the website: 2026 RCHS AGM\n\nThe agenda for the AGM
  and related documents will be available from 21st August.\n\nAfter a brea
 k for lunch\, starting at 2:00pm\, Bill Froggatt\, Heritage Adviser at Can
 al &amp\; River Trust will give a talk 'Building the Lancaster Canal'. \n
 \nBill adds 'I have been a heritage adviser for the Canal &amp\; River Tru
 st for 12 years focussing primarily in the northwest. The talk will be abo
 ut the construction of the Lancaster Canal\, an opportunity to highlight s
 ome of the lesser know people that built the canal\, including such majest
 ic structures as the Grade I listed Lune Aqueduct'.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n[caption

  looking for new members. Council is the Society's governing body\, its ro
 le being to consider policy issues and provide strategic direction for the
  Society. It meets three times each year and also holds a short meeting af
 ter the AGM to appoint the Managing Committee (a sub committee of Council)
  and to consider any issues raised at the AGM. Being a member of Council i
 s not an onerous task but it is an important body within the Society and t
 o its future direction.\n\nMembers who are interested in joining the RCHS 
 Council please contact Ian Willis (secretary@rchs.org.uk). Ian would be pl
 eased to hear from you and to answer any questions you may have.
