An illustrated talk by NICK BOOKER, chairman of the Welsh Highland Railway Heritage Group who looks at the life of James Cholmeley Russell (1841-1912), a London-born barrister, expert on family law, financier, property developer and railway entrepreneur. Russell was a key shareholder and at one time Chairman, Managing Director and Receiver of the North Wales Narrow Gauge Railways Company that ultimately became the Welsh Highland Railway. He was also Manager and Receiver of the Manchester & Milford Railway from 1880 to 1904. A man of significant wealth he owned houses in Scotland and Surrey and a steam yacht. He is the eponymous origin of the Hunslet built steam locomotive Russell, that survives in North Wales.
