Bridgewater Canal – Old Trafford to Barton

A walk of 5 miles along the Bridgewater Canal between Old Trafford and Barton.

Walk led by Gerald Leach along the towpath of the Bridgewater Canal from Old Trafford to Barton. Total distance 5 miles

Meet at 10.15 a.m. outside the Metrolink Tram Station at Trafford Bar for the walk to Barton.  The group will then travel  a short journey by bus to Eccles Interchange (eta 1.30 p.m.) where there are a number of eating establishments, including a Wetherspoons.

As there are no convenient food facilities available in close proximity to the Canal, the walk will  terminate at Barton.  Several options for return to Manchester from Barton are: by train from Patricroft or Eccles, by bus to Eccles and then onwards to Manchester by bus or Metrolink Tram. Service Nos. 67 & 100 from Barton go to Central Manchester.  These options will be explained on the day. Several locations for early escape are available along the route.
